New Delhi, February 3, 2024: Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today dedicated NTPC Deepali Super Thermal Power Station (2×800 MW), NSPCL Rourkela PP-2 Expansion Project (1×250 MW) during an event held in Sambalpur and also Also laid the foundation stone of NTPC Talcher Dharmal Power Project, Stage-3 (2×660 MW). A total investment of Rs 28,978 crore has been made in all these projects.
Darlipali STPS located in Sundergarh district of Orissa is a pit-head power station with supercritical technology (highly efficient) and is supplying low cost power to its beneficiary states like Orissa, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Sikkim.
NTPC-SAIL Power Company’s 250 MW project has been set up at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to provide reliable power to the steel plant, which will ensure economic growth.
In addition, NTPC is developing Talber Dharmal Power Project, Stage-3 at the old TTPS plant complex in Angul district of Orissa, which was acquired by NTPC from Orissa State Electricity Board in the year 1995. The old TTPS plant was decommissioned after serving the country for more than 50 years.
The upcoming plant will have units based on highly efficient ultra supercritical technology and will have approximately three times the capacity of the old TTPS plant. 50% capacity of this project has been dedicated to the state of Orissa, other beneficiary states like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Assam will also get low cost power from this pit-head station.
The project is being constructed with eco-friendly modern features like effective electrostatic precipitator, flue gas desulphurization, bio-mass cofiring, covered storage space for coal. In such a situation, it will be helpful in reducing coal consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
Along with generating direct and indirect employment opportunities in the area, these projects will also contribute to the improvement of infrastructure. With the development of these projects, there will be improvement in road, drainage and transportation and communication systems related to the project. NTPC is working to improve education, drinking water, sanitation, health, women empowerment, rural sports etc. in the surrounding communities. NTPC has also established a medical college and hospital at Sundargarh, Orissa.
